Niagara braces for ‘hazardous’ winter storm
“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly,” said Environment Canada
Environment Canada is warning of heavy snow and freezing rain in Niagara.
Impacted areas include Niagara Falls, Welland and the southern Niagara Region with snow beginning late Wednesday afternoon, Environment Canada said.
“Snow is expected to transition to freezing rain late this evening and a freezing rain warning has been issued,” they said.
Up to 10 centimetres of snow is expected and the evening commute is looking to be impacted, Environment Canada warned.
“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly,” said Environment Canada.
“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance,” they added.
Freezing rain conditions are expected to end Thursday morning, producing an ice build-up near 2 millimetres.
Environment Canada urges residents to monitor alerts and forecasts to stay updated.
