Air Canada releases statement following Delta plane crash in Toronto: ‘Greatly concerned’
Delta connection flight 4819 was involved in a single-aircraft accident at Toronto Pearson International Airport around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
After severe weather in eastern Canada and a plane crash in Toronto, Air Canada has released an operation update to customers.
“Yesterday was a difficult day, and we were greatly concerned by the incident involving Delta Air Lines. Our thoughts remain with that flight’s customers and crew,” Craig Landry, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at Air Canada said in a press release Feb. 18.
“Unfortunately, this incident added to weather events over the past few days that have been extremely challenging for airlines in Eastern Canada. Safety must always be our top priority and sometimes ensuring safe travel requires slowing down and adapting to conditions,” Landry said.
Air Canada cancelled approximately 1,290 flights over six days as a result of the storm and the incident at Toronto Pearson International Airport, they said in the press release.
“We anticipate it may take several more days, depending on the weather, to return to fully normal operations,” Landry said.
